Meet Our Faculty
Bar-Ilan University's groundbreaking Empowerment ("Otzmot") Program is enabling six high-functioning young adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) to pursue a once inconceivable dream – BA degree studies. Thrice weekly they come to the BIU campus to attend university courses alongside their non-challenged peers. "When Otzmot first started it was a revolutionary idea that individuals with ID could go on learning," observes Chani, whose daughter Ruti – a veteran in the program – has Down syndrome (DS).
The Joseph Fetter Museum of Nanotechnology
"It started several years ago as a dream to establish a nanotechnology museum through a collaborative process of scientists and artists,” said Prof. Yuval Garini, the visionary and driving force behind the project. “We wanted to dazzle visitors with magnificent experiences, exposing them to scientific principles and to the vast research possibilities in the natural sciences. I am deeply grateful to the Fetter family, whom, without their gracious help our vision would not have been realized”, he said.

Prize-Winning Nano Art
Illuminating a novel imaging technique, this eye-catching nano objet d’art zooms in on tiny cell-like bubbles called liposomes which encase gold nanoparticles attached to fluorescent materials. Liposomes are often used today to “transport” drugs which target cancer cells within the body.

President Shimon Peres Visits BIU
Beginning the visit at the Gonda Brain Center, University President Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz told President Peres that "Bar-Ilan University is a microcosm of harmony and mutual respect combined with Jewish heritage" and explained some of the many developments that have taken place at the University over the past few years, including at the School of Medicine in the Galilee, where 500 students are now studying, including 170 who returned from abroad, and which is affiliated with six regional hospitals.

The Israeli Knesset has approved a bill which will boost the minimum legal marriage age in Israel from 17 to 18. The new law is the culmination of a three-year effort initiated by the Ruth and Emanuel Rackman Center for the Advancement of the Status of Women.
